Shah Alam, March 28, 2009 - Earth Hour, which was observed last Saturday between 8.30 to 9.30pm, turned out to be a huge success worldwide. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, DiGi observed the hour strictly.
DiGi's participation in EHM (Earth Hour Malaysia) stems from our Deep Green programme, which aims to reduce the company's carbon footprint by 50% in 2012. It is no coincidence that our effort to reduce energy consumption
resonates clearly with the philosophy behind Earth Hour.
DiGi marked EHM in a very unique way, with activities here in D'House and in the region.
A pledge wall was erected at DiGi's headquarters with an invitation for all employees to express their support. Additionally, there were screenings of Kilowatt Ours, a movie-documentary on energy conservation, efficiency and renewable energy; and various activities driven through the company's intranet, e-mails, and plasma screens located in and around all our offices.
DiGi's unique support also extended to supporting 'Call to Arms', an alliance of bands and friends who produced a compilation album of 14 original tracks for EHM. 2,500 free copies will be distributed at participating DiGi outlets and at other EHM events around the city.
The Friday before Earth Hour, a large number of DiGi's employees located around the country were part of a special activity called Fade-to-Black, where employees showed up for work dressed in black to convey their unique support for Earth Hour. Going beyond EHM, DiGi has further pledged to turn off 70% of all its lights in D'House for 90 minutes daily, every day from 12noon to 1.30pm.
Throughout Earth Hour, DiGi's corporate and Deep Green websites were 'blacked-out', as were lights at all its offices nation-wide and at key DiGi Centers. During this time, a few DiGizens were also a part of bringing the excitement of EHM to our customers at 4 stores around the country: SohoKL, Pavilion KL, Berjaya Kuantan Mall, and 1-Borneo in Kota Kinabalu. As the lights went down in these stores on Saturday, these employees reached out to customers and brought the Earth Hour message to them, by educating them through a few simple games with energy-related messages and treating them to some fun goodies.
