DiGi - First to Implement Automatic International Roaming, Cost Saving Day-time Tariff Rate and an Exclusive Loyalty Programme for Prepaid Customers in the Country

Telco advances prepaid business in Malaysia with introduction of new, enhanced features to DiGi Prepaid Plus TM

Kuala Lumpur, June 4 2002 - Pioneer of the prepaid concept in Malaysia, DiGi Telecommunications notched yet another first within the nation's prepaid segment with the introduction of its Automatic International Roaming, one of the best day-time tariff rates and a comprehensive loyalty programme for its DiGi Prepaid Plus customers.

The Automatic International Roaming feature enables customers to make and receive calls as soon as they are overseas and in countries that support prepaid roaming with DiGi, without prior registration. This hassle-free and convenient service allows DiGi Prepaid Plus customers to stay connected with friends, business associates and loved ones when they are abroad.

"One of the key benefits that will encourage a greater take-up rate for prepaid is for subscribers to make and receive calls when they are travelling overseas. In view of this, we recognise that our introduction of international roaming on the prepaid platform is both timely and natural, especially with the increase in discerning Malaysian business and leisure travellers to overseas destinations. Incidentally, the launch of this service also makes DiGi Prepaid Plus the first prepaid service in Malaysia to launch Automatic International Roaming," explained DiGi Telecommunications Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Tore Johnsen.

DiGi's prepaid Automatic International Roaming will be activated by default for all DiGi's existing and new prepaid customers effective from today. Roaming is only available on compatible networks in countries which support the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) feature and where DiGi has a roaming agreement.

Customers are required to have more than RM50 talk time credit before they can make or receive calls while roaming. In the initial phase, prepaid customers will be able to roam over 50 countries and this will expand to about 86 countries in time to come. Among the countries in which DiGi's prepaid customers can currently roam are Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, United Kingdom and Australia.

Understanding that affordable costs are a priority to its prepaid customers, DiGi earlier introduced one of the best day-time off-peak rates for customers back in December 1999. These existing rates are among the lowest day-time off peak rates in the market with all calls charged at RM0.40 per minute between 12.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays, and all day long on Sundays.

"A recent survey on the popularity of prepaid showed that one item which will spur prepaid's growth in time to come is the introduction of attractive tariff rates. Taking this into consideration and affirming our customer-centric focus, we have implemented these new rates which translate to about 33% savings for our customers when they make calls within the mentioned time period," added Mr. Johnsen.

At the media briefing today, DiGi also unveiled an exclusive loyalty programme for its prepaid customers, making it the first telco to introduce a loyalty programme for the prepaid category. The exclusive programme enables customers to get certain percentage of talk time rebate based on their spending over a period of time. Simply put, this means the more time they spend on talking on the phone, the higher the rebate they receive. A special feature that comes with this programme is that customers who reload on their birthdays will get to enjoy 50% more talk time. This even applies to reloads performed in the span of three days before or after the customer's birthday.

"Taking the lead position within the prepaid market in the country, DiGi has always sought to provide value-added services and enjoyable benefits to reward our customers. As such, we developed our loyalty programme, which promotes some exciting benefits that promise a rewarding experience for our customers," commented Mr. Johnsen.

Additionally, the loyalty programme offers a special SIM Guard feature which allows customers to maintain their mobile number and any remaining talk time credit even if their SIM cards are lost, stolen or damaged. Customers are required to register with DiGi to be eligible to enjoy the benefits under this loyalty programme.

Developed exclusively for its customers who have contributed in making DiGi Prepaid Plus a market leader, the enhanced features to DiGi Prepaid Plus is in line with the telco's overall strategy to offer its existing and potential customers interactive and innovative services, catering to the usage needs of the various prepaid market segments.

At the media briefing DiGi also announced that its General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is now available nationwide for all its customers, with no monthly fees attached to the service. The charges for this service will be based on the "pay as you use" charging mechanism. With the availability of GPRS on its network, DiGi is also the first telco in the Asian region to offer GPRS for a prepaid service.
