| Energy consumption pattern of mobile network |
Mobile networks consume a significant amount of energy and contributes to more than 70% of the total energy used by telcos to provide uninterrupted network coverage to all its subscribers. For environmental and business reasons, we are constantly exploring and implementing energy-efficient initiatives across our network. These initiatives include:
|
| Reducing energy consumption reduces cost |
Our strategy to make our mobile network more energy-efficient includes the following tasks:
In 2011, DiGi will undergo a major network modernisation project across our mobile communications network to achieve optimal energy efficiency. We will also be utilizing renewable energy in several new hybrid solar-powered base transmission sites. This was an outcome of a feasibility study with GSM Association whereby the findings helped to enhance the business case for these solar-powered sites. As we review our supply chain, we will also be revising our Suppliers' Code of Principles to include more detailed requirements on the environment to include policies that govern energy efficiency, waste management etc. These efforts in the long run will contribute towards reducing our carbon footprint throughout our entire supply chain. |
