DiGi brings Gawai cheer to the underprivileged
Star-studded GeGeRiuh carnival with games, concerts and more enlivens Gawai Dayak

KUCHING, 3 June 2006 - DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") today joined in the celebration of Gawai Dayak by hosting a special event for underprivileged children from the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Negeri Sarawak and senior citizens from Rumah Seri Kenangan Sarawak at its GeGeRiuh Carnival Gawai Dayak open house.

At the event officiated by Housing Minister YB Dato' Sri Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg, the children and the senior citizens were served the traditional dish of pansoh manok (open chicken cooked in bamboo) by celebrities Anuar Zain, Ruffedge, Dayang Nurfaezah, all the members of Search, REM and Zainal Abidin, led by DiGi's Head of Segment Marketing Puan Yohani Yusof.

Puan Yohani said: "The spirit of Gawai Dayak is that of unity and thanksgiving and we are glad to be able to celebrate and share this festival with these children from the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Negeri Sarawak and from the Rumah Seri Kenangan Sarawak."

"GeGeRiuh is our way of reaching out and connecting directly with the people. Through GeGeRiuh, we are not just communicating or sending across a message; we are participating in the joy and celebration of the rakyat here," she added.

There was something for everyone at GeGeRiuh, organised for the first time in Sarawak, and members of the public had a chance to join in the exciting activities throughout the day such as a Karaoke competition, while DiGi customers had a chance to "Meet & Greet" with the celebrities.

More adventurous attendees participated in activities like Mountain Climbing and Gladiator or won prizes by participating in fun games such as: Tendang & Menang, Timbang & Menang,Tangkap & Menang, Putar & Menang and Jangan Riuh. Football fans competed in a street soccer competition held throughout the day.

The carnival also brought the people of Sarawak some spectacular performances by local artistes at night through Konsert GeGeRiuh.

Established Malaysian stars such as Anuar Zain, Zainal Abidin, REM, Saiful Apek, Dayang Norfaezah and Ruffedge took to the stage with entertaining performances. The highlight of Konsert GeGeRiuh was undoubtedly the first ever on-stage re-union of the original band members of popular old-school rockers SEARCH in 18 years. Amy, Nasir, Yazid and Hilary once again wowed the crowd with old favourites and new tunes.

"Ultimately, GeGeRiuh is a platform for us to make our presence felt tangibly," said Puan Yohani.

"Our aim in Sarawak is to continue to strengthen our position here. And one of the ways we are doing this is by strengthening our brand presence through on-ground events such as GeGeRiuh. This way, our customers here will feel our presence in a more direct manner," she explained.

GeGeRiuh was held at Stadium Sarawak, Petra Jaya, Kuching from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. on Saturday 3rd June 2006. Admission to the GeGeRiuh Carnival was free of charge.

DiGi customers who had purchased RM10 reloads were given two passes to the Konsert Gegeriuh. DiGi Prepaid MTV Powerpack users also received a SMS alert permitting entry for two. Meanwhile, each DiGi postpaid users were automatically given four passes to the Konsert which began at 8pm.
