SUBANG JAYA, 12 NOVEMBER 2020 – Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) celebrates this Deepavali with an inspiring message to all Malaysians that with hope and courage, we can all rise above the adversities brought about by the Covid19 pandemic that many of us are currently facing.

Depicting the true meaning of this festivity where light and faith overcome darkness and despair, the video ‘Villalan’ or Archer was inspired by the true story of paralympic S. Suresh, Malaysia’s first world champion in para-archery. Told through a whimsical fairytale animation, the video shows how Suresh’s fighting spirit pushed him to persevere through the hardship and challenges that he has faced from a young age to make our nation shine on the international stage. His story proves that no matter who you are and what challenge you are facing; you can find the courage within to rise and inspire those around you.

Praveen Rajan, Digi’s Chief Marketing Officer said, “We hope that this inspiring real-life people stories of unsung heroes will continue to bring the much-needed positivity into our days. Through this video we want to remind everyone that we can all be heroes in our own way and that it is in the darkest times that our true strength is defined. On behalf of Digi, I would like to wish all Malaysians a Happy Deepavali by reiterating our commitment to keep the spirit of light alive and ensure all of our customers stay connected to what matters most to them during this challenging period.”

Nominate your unsung hero
Through its annual Unsung Heroes or “Saathanai Hero-kkal” campaign, Digi continues to champion everyday Malaysians who have gone above and beyond to have touched lives and made a difference in their respective communities.

Some of the past unsung heroes that have been featured on the campaign include Mr. Thatchanamurthy, who set up a company to employ persons with disabilities (PWD) and help them earn a living wage. The campaign also featured the story of Mr. Sri Krishnan who believes that one does not have to be rich to help those in need. With the help of a team of volunteers, he distributes food packets to the homeless and less fortunate in the Klang Valley. More unsung heroes can be viewed through a series of videos and on-air segments via Digi’s Youtube page.

Now in its third year of inspiring fellow Malaysians, Digi is continuing its partnership with RAAGA and is encouraging Malaysians to nominate the unsung heroes in their life for the chance to have their stories featured on RAAGA’s Kalakkal Kaalai segment. Submissions are open from now until April 2021 at RAAGA’s website.
