DiGi broadens mobile internet footprint
Invests RM100 million in Perak and Sarawak to rollout Malaysia's newest Turbo 3Gâ„¢ network

SHAH ALAM, 5 FEBRUARY 2010: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (DiGi) has further broadened its Turbo 3Gâ„¢ network and made its mobile internet services available in Ipoh, Perak and Kuching, Sarawak today. It will invest RM100 million to support its rapid expansion in both states over the next three years.

With a population coverage of 68% in Ipoh and 45% in Kuching at launch, DiGi will be increasing the percentage of coverage to 98% and 55% in both cities respectively by March 2010. Progressive plans are also underway to widen DiGi's Turbo 3Gâ„¢ coverage in other towns such as Taiping, Kamunting and Kampar in Perak and Miri in Sarawak by the second half of 2010.

Elaborating on its aggressive expansion plan, Johan Dennelind, chief executive officer of DiGi said, "We are serious about our ambition to bring internet access to the people. As such, we have accelerated our rollout to make our mobile internet services available in five states within the short span of a year.

"We already have 29% population coverage in Malaysia to date and now plan to make our mobile internet services available in more than three new market centers this year, with Johor Bahru as the next launch location," he added.

In addition to Perak and Sarawak, DiGi today reaches almost 100% population coverage of Kota Kinabalu and 70% of both the Klang Valley and Penang.

"While we grow our Turbo 3Gâ„¢ presence in more locations, we remain focused on delivering quality and best value services. Customers today demand better internet speed for less, a proposition which has become synonymous with DiGi's mobile internet services, enabling customers to surf at ease and with peace of mind knowing they won't be overcharged. This has contributed to the steady increase of our subscriber base," explained Dennelind.

DiGi currently has more than 500,000 cumulative 3G mobile internet customers, out of which around 10% are mobile broadband customers.

With the launch of DiGi's mobile internet services in Perak and Sarawak today, customers in these new market centers can now opt for our broadband service that connects them to PCs and laptops with consistent and reliable speed for as low as RM58 per month. They can also choose from DiGi's Turbo 3Gâ„¢ for mobile, smart phones and Blackberry for as low as RM58 per month on DiGi Postpaid or RM5 a day on DiGi Prepaid.
