SUBANG JAYA, 27 JULY 2020 – As the country shows signs of recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, our brave frontliners are still standing strong in protecting our nation, tirelessly caring for those affected and saving lives daily. Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) together with its customers and employees has delivered more than RM50,000 worth of medical grade face masks to Kuala Lumpur Hospital and University of Malaya Medical Centre, as a show of support to these nation’s heroes.

The funds for the masks were raised through the Yellow Heart COVID-19 Aid campaign, which was launched in the spirit of #DigiCares to provide a way for Digi to partner with customers and make a difference during this crisis. During the campaign, both customers and Digi employees made their contribution anywhere between RM2, RM5, RM10 and RM20 per transaction via the MyDigi app, a feature-rich self-care mobile app that offers convenience and great rewards to the users.

“We are grateful for the overwhelming support from our customers and employees who banded together and lent a helping hand during this time of need, allowing us to reach our target amount in just five days. This has enabled us to fulfill the requests from these hospitals for medical grade face masks, one of the essential part of the personal protective equipment (PPE) required to keep our frontliners safe and protected as the war against COVID-19 is far from over,” said Philip Ling, Digi Head of Sustainability.

The Yellow Heart Crowdfunding initiative provides an easy and secure way for Digi customers to support and contribute funds via the MyDigi app. Future crowdfunding campaigns focused on supporting humanitarian and emergency relief efforts shall be activated similarly in times of crisis.

On top of the funds collected via the Yellow Heart COVID-19 Aid, Digi as part of the GLC Disaster Network (GDRN) coalition had supported the nation in overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic by pledging RM1 million to support the efforts of the Minitry of Health and the purchase of necessary medical supplies for hospitals nationwide.
