SUBANG JAYA, 11 FEBRUARY 2021 – As another intense monsoon season has left several states in Malaysia devastated by floods, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi)’s network operations team has been working round the clock to conduct network restoration in flood-stricken areas to ensure people can stay connected in difficult times.

Earlier this year, around 130 of Digi’s network sites in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Pahang, Johor, as well as Sabah, Sarawak were impacted by the floods, which caused several power failures and damage to both fibre cables and equipment, affecting the local communities’ access to internet. Responding to this, Digi’s network operations team were mobilised quickly to assess and repair the damages, in order to minimise service disruption.

Restoration works were hindered in some areas as the road access was either submerged in water or obstructed by landslides. Nevertheless, working together with its network partner Ericsson, and with full support from local authorities as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s regional offices, the teams were able to deploy power generators and carry out necessary repair works. Sites were successfully restored in no time.

Digi assured that its priority is to maintain the availability and quality of its network to ensure connectivity remains accessible for all.
