DiGi Live Sekolahku Berbakat To Spotlight Secondary School Talent and Music Expression
Initiative with Ministry of Education to nurture school pride through performing arts

SHAH ALAM, 22 MARCH 2011: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") today kick-started the DiGi Live Sekolahku Berbakat programme, its latest youth expression initiative with the Ministry of Education to develop secondary school students via extra co-curricular activities.

DiGi Live Sekolahku Berbakat is a school-based programme focused on cultivating talent among 12 to 19 year olds, encouraging them to express themselves in a fun and creative way through music and dance.

Moharmustaqeem Mohammed, Head of Segment Marketing at DiGi said, "From our previous engagements with the youth, we've seen a dynamic group of individuals whose talents are virtually untapped and waiting to be unearthed, especially in the area of music. This has given us good reason to create a platform where they can exhibit their capabilities creatively, showing off their interests, passion and talent on a national stage.

"What sets Sekolahku Berbakat apart from other talent show programmes is the level of engagement it provides to all participants. Together with the ministry, we will be hosting creative, grooming and performance workshops not only for students but also for ministry-selected teachers to create a conducive environment that supports and nurtures talent development in schools."

In this respect, the DiGi Live Sekolahku Berbakat initiative complements the Ministry of Education's call for students to be well-rounded and have a balanced lifestyle between studies and co-curricular activities.

Running from 28 February to 8 May, the DiGi Live Sekolahku Berbakat is open to all secondary school students. To join, students need to form teams of two to six members and register either with their respective schools or online for either one of the following five categories, namely singing, band, instrumental band, dance and traditional.

The stages of competition are as follows:
• Auditions to be held in six states, namely Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor
• Ten selected teams from each state will compete in their respective state finals
• Top two teams from each state will proceed to the national finals held on 8 May 2011 in the Klang Valley.

At each level of competition, the qualifying teams will be required to attend a camp featuring motivational training, grooming sessions, and rehearsals to prepare them for the finals.

Teams outside the six states can participate in the competition either by travelling to audition at any of the selected venues or via a 'wildcard' entry by simply uploading their audition videos onto DiGi Youth's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/digiyouths. Videos of teams that did not qualify during the auditions will also be eligible for a wildcard entry to the finals via Facebook. However, only two teams from these Facebook submissions will be selected to compete in the national finals based on popular vote from the public.
