Digi's No.1 LTE network now live in Sarawak
Quality, high-speed internet for data-loving Sarawakians

KUCHING, 17 April 2015 -Digi Telecommunications (Digi) today launched 4G LTE services in Kuching, Miri and Bintulu, enabling Sarawakians to enjoy quality, high-speed and consistent internet experience with the No. 1 4G LTE network in the state.

Officiating the launch, Y.B Datuk Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity & Telecommunications) & Assistant Minister of Youth Development (Rural) said providing quality, affordable and sustainable access to telecommunication services such as internet on-the-go plays a critical role in driving socio-economic development within the state.

Bringing high-speed mobile internet to Sarawakians presents a good opportunity for them to use the internet in new, relevant ways to change their lives. "Loh Keh Jiat, Digi's Chief Sales Officer said that Digi was excited to bring 4G LTE services to a key market like Sarawak, citing that internet-savvy Sarawakians were among the highest data users on its network. "We have fast tracked the expansion of our best for internet network to cater to this rapidly growing demand for always-on, high-speed data connectivity. We have grown our 3G coverage to 86%, and LTE footprint to 32% of populated areas nationwide, while focusing on delivering a quality, consistent internet experience to customers with a wide variety of products and services at all price points."

In Kuching, Digi has an LTE population coverage of 72%, with plans to expand to more areas in Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu and Samarahan, bringing the company's LTE footprint Sarawak to 42% and total 3G coverage in the state to 71% by year-end.

"With Digi's 4G LTE, customers will enjoy a consistent internet experience of more than 5Mbps, 80% of the time on the No.1 4G LTE network in Sarawak. Customers will experience the higher capacity and brisker speeds in the form of faster HD video and music streaming, smoother video chatting, downloading apps and sharing on social media will be instant, and the difference when connecting your laptop with your smartphone hotspot"

"We want as many people to benefit from what LTE has to offer. Today, all our prepaid and postpaid customers can enjoy LTE on the wide-range of LTE plans we are introducing, paired with the latest suite of LTE-enabled devices, both big and small screens, to fit different customer usage patterns,” said Loh.

Customers in Kuching have a choice of premium devices like the iPhone 6 to more affordable options such as the Lenovo A606, Meizu MX 4 and Honor 6, available for free with selected DG Smart Plans. Digi will be hosting a three-day roadshow starting today at Plaza Merdeka where customers can sign-up for the new range of LTE postpaid DG Smart Plans, iDiGi Plans and Broadband plans. For this three-day duration, existing Digi prepaid and postpaid customers can begin enjoying 4G LTE on their LTE-enabled devices with a free LTE SIM upgrade redeemable at the roadshow itself.

In addition to Kuching, Miri and Bintulu, Digi's 4G LTE services are currently available in the Klang Valley, Penang, Kampar, Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Labuan and Langkawi. The company plans to progressively grow its footprint nationwide, focusing on areas where it sees a strong demand for LTE services and availability of devices, and where it can make a real difference in delivering internet for all Malaysians.
