BATU CAVES, 7 FEBRUARY 2020 – Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) is collaborating with the Clean Thaipusam 2020 organiser to support the efforts for a clean and litter-free environment during the Thaipusam festival in Batu Caves, Thannir Malai Temple in Penang and Kallumalai Temple in Ipoh. This initiative will see more than 700 volunteers assisting in maintaining the cleanliness of the respective temples and surrounding areas starting today.

With over a million devotees giving offerings for Thaipusam each year, Digi being Malaysia’s largest network hopes to inspire more Malaysians to be more environmentally conscious and calls for a shared responsibility amongst its customers celebrating Thaipusam to play their part and dispose their rubbish in a proper manner. This collaboration is also in line with Digi’s Unsung Heroes campaign, “Digi Saathanai Hero-kkal” which pays tribute to the selfless deeds of everyday Malaysian heroes.

In addition to the clean-up initiative, Digi also encourages its customers who are planning to fulfill their vows by shaving their heads to donate their cut hair to a non-profit organisation (NGO) which provides wigs for free to cancer patients. Those interested to donate can drop their hair at the Clean Thaipusam 2020 booth located within walking distance from Batu Caves entrance.

Digi customers are also eligible to redeem potted plants and metal straws through the MyDigi app and collect the items at the Digi booth in Batu Caves.
