DiGi's reading in English programme gains momentum
Four primary schools from Central Region qualify for DiGi RAP Grand Final

Shah Alam, 21 April 2009: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") is proud to announce the winners of the central region finals for DiGi Read.Action.Play (DiGi RAP), a nationwide programme for primary schools to encourage more reading in English. The four winning schools - SK Convent Bukit Nanas 1, SK Taman Melati, SK Assunta 1 and SK Seksyen 20, Shah Alam - are now in the running for the Grand Final on 31 May 2009.

Held on 18 and 19 April at SJK (C) Chee Wen Subang Jaya, the central regional finals saw twenty schools vying to compete on a national level.

Nikki Lee, Head of DiGi's Youth Segment said: "DiGi RAP has garnered much attention and participation from schools nationwide. The programme is about teamwork, friendship, creative imagination and of course associating fun and enjoyment with reading.

"We are also happy with the feedback we received from teachers who found that the programme has helped develop their students' confidence and ability to voice thoughts and ideas. They are also developing a greater appreciation for the English language. We were impressed with the creativity and effort of the winning teams in staging their plays while juggling with their school work at the same time."

This year, more than 100 schools from four regions took part in the programme, namely Northern (Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak), Central 1 (KL & Putrajaya), Central 2 (Selangor) and Southern (Negeri Sembilan, Melaka & Johor).

Ten schools are selected for each of the regional finals, where the judges will choose two schools with the best performances to compete in the Grand Final. Each panel of judges comprises representatives from the Ministry of Education, performing arts community and DiGi.

Schools selected to the regional finals had professional guidance on staging and theatre work with workshops conducted by theatre veteran Nell Ng, who brought her theatrical experience to help the students overcome their inhibitions and build their confidence in preparation for their performances.

The next regional finals will take place on 25 and 26 April for the Northern and Southern regions respectively while the Grand Final is scheduled for 31 May at SEGi University College, Selangor.
