DiGi's virtual platform for Green Enthusiasts

SHAH ALAM, 2 OCTOBER 2010: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") under the Deep Green programme, has launched a new, refreshed Deep Green aggregator site today - an interactive communication tool to help establish better communication and idea sharing amongst the green community in Malaysia.

A one-stop information virtual dashboard with the goal to aggregate  'green'-related content in Malaysia, features relevant up-to-date information and news from around the globe, latest events and happenings in the community with live feed, listing of certified green organizations as well as helpful widgets for users to reduce their shared carbon footprint.

DiGi's Head of Corporate Responsibility, Vimal L. Kumar said that this initiative reflects DiGi's position and commitment towards creating a more 'greener' Malaysia. It is part of DiGi's aim to bring together like-minded 'greenies' on a single platform  where they are able to share their thoughts and new ideas to create better green awareness amongst the community as well as come up with innovative solutions to reduce the shared climate impact.

"We hope that this website will not only be the avenue for the green community to learn, share and exchange information and ideas but also as an enabler for a green transformation in the society," she said, adding that the website has some very interesting and user friendly features. Users can not only customise their own Deep Green homepage by adding or removing widgets of their choice but are also able to calculate their carbon footprints using the carbon calculator application.

The website was revealed today to a group of green bloggers and media members by Vimal at the DiGi's Minus get-together session held at DiGi's headquarters in Shah Alam.

DiGi Minus
A part of the Deep Green community engagement initiatives, DiGi Minus is a movement that advocates using less of everything in our daily lives in the effort to reduce shared climate impact. Focusing on minimising paper and energy usage, this campaign is skewed towards mobilising the community to change their behaviour and attitude towards adopting an environmental friendly lifestyle.

According to Vimal, DiGi realised that in order to drive change and shape the future, it needs to walk the talk and lead by example. Through the Minus campaign, DiGi is trying to show that by minimising usage, consumers are actually contributing to a sustainable future.

"In order to create this awareness, it is critical for us to educate our customers and the public at large on the importance of what we at DiGi are trying to achieve. And what better way to do this by bringing together avid bloggers and green advocates to a gathering which allows them to share and discuss ideas. They are encouraged to  brainstorm with us to generate innovative solutions that  can be implemented to encourage more community members to realise that their contribution matters and to adopt 'green' as part of their daily lives," explained Vimal.

Attended by green bloggers, writers, green companies and NGO members, this first get-together session featured informative presentations and lively discourse with Malaysia's top environmentalists Mr. Nithiyananthan Nesadurai, the President of the Environment Protection Society Malaysia (EPSM), Ms. Yasmin Rasyid, a passionate environmentalist who is also the founder and President of a non-profit environmental organisation, EcoKnights and Patrick Er, DiGi's project manager for DiGi's upcoming 'green' Technology Operation Centre (TOC). The panel was also joined by Vimal, DiGi's very own climate champion.

The event was made successful with the support of DiGi partners such as BodyShop, EcoKnights, EPSM, Mengo, Nuffnang and Yahoo!.
