Laptops for community of Bukit Diman

Kuala Terengganu, 23 JULY 2011: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") today distributed 100 laptops to selected schools and members of the community in the vicinity of DiGi's Bukit Diman Community Broadband Center (CBC), Terengganu.

The Bukit Diman CBC was the eighth DiGi CBC to receive laptops under a collaborative effort between the telecommunications provider and the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) initiated under the Universal Service Provision (USP) fund. Over the past two weeks, DiGi has contributed a total of 700 laptops to the communities surrounding each of its seven other CBCs in the East Coast region - Gual Ipoh & Kemahang (Kelantan), Kuala Berang, Binjai & Pasir Gajah (Terengganu) and Pandan & Kg Ubai (Pahang).

DiGi's Head of Eastern Region, Jennifer Neal said, "While our CBCs provide underserved communities with affordable Internet access, we hope these laptops will spur the receiving communities further to adopt the Internet as an integral part of their daily lives - be it in school or at home."

This move also supports our ongoing Internet for All initiatives that aim to cultivate a mobile Internet lifestyle not only by making it easy to access the Internet anywhere, anytime but also making it affordable. In DiGi, we believe in empowerment through connectivity," she added.

Accompanied by Jennifer, the Director of MCMC for the Eastern region, Mohd Shafie Harun presented the laptops to qualified individuals from the Bukit Diman community as well as 5 schools that are located around the CBC. The recipients were nominated by the District Officer with the support from the village security committee (Jawatankuasa Keselamatan Kampung) and the State Assemblyman's office.
