Digi announces 10 new music services for unlimited streaming with zero internet charges

  • Now offers the biggest catalogue of songs and widest variety of music
  • Includes Jay Z's high fidelity music streaming service TIDAL
  • Extends free pass for customers by additional 120 days

SHAH ALAM, 13 July, 2015- Following up on the successful launch of its Digi Music Freedom unlimited streaming service, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("Digi") today announced a whole host of new partners added to its popular offering which gives customers the biggest catalogue of songs with the widest variety of music to enjoy on their mobile devices with zero internet charges. It brings the total number of music discovery and streaming services to partner with Digi to 20.

Digi's 10 new partners include US hip-hop superstar Jay Z's high fidelity music streaming service TIDAL, Astro's Raku which features international and local artistes, the fast growing Australian provider Guvera and recently launched JOOX from Tencent, the tech giant behind WeChat. New radio streaming services include MIX fm, LiteFM, SINAR fm, MELODY FM, THR Gegar and THR Raaga. They join Digi's initial 10 services which are Deezer, Spotify, Rdio, KKBOX, SoundHound, hitz.fm, ERA fm, MY FM, BE-AT.TV and Q.us.

"Malaysians love music. Whether it's enjoyed while taking a break from work or school or even part of a daily commute ritual, we aim to offer something inspiring for everyone to enjoy without the worry of internet charges," said Christian Thrane, Digi's chief marketing officer.

"After launching Digi Music Freedom in March, we are very encouraged by the take up of our unlimited music streaming pass. Now these customers and all our new subscribers can also enjoy music from our new partners with the biggest catalogue of songs and widest variety of content on offer," he added.

Digi is also rewarding its loyal Digi Music Freedom subscribers. These individuals stand to enjoy freebies from the telco and its music partners including free premium trial accounts, exclusive invites to private showcase events with top artistes and premium cloud storage space for their smartphones and tablets. All these offers are available exclusively through the Digi Music Freedom app.

In addition to this, Digi is also extending its free subscription for an extra 120 days. Existing customers will see their free subscription extended automatically while new customers will have 120 days of free streaming from the time they activate Digi Music Freedom on their devices before 30 September.

Digi's new partners add to the strength of the initial 10 announced during the Digi Music Freedom launch earlier this year.

"JOOX is delighted to partner with Digi in offering subscribers the freedom to listen to their music anytime and anywhere on their smartphones. Whether to escape the pressures of daily life or to add some excitement, JOOX resonates with the customer's taste and mood through local music curators that handpick songs tailored to different languages, trends, and locations," said Poshu Yeung, Vice-President, International Business Group at Tencent, the company behind the JOOX free music application

Guvera chief executive officer Darren Herft said Guvera is thrilled to collaborate with Digi to provide their customers free access to the best local and international music.

"Digi customers will have unlimited access to our music library and curated playlists, without being restricted by internet consumption. This partnership is an important step in Guvera's expansion into Malaysia and strengthens our presence in a market that has growing demand for music streaming. Guvera is now available in over 20 markets worldwide and we remain focused on providing our customers the music they love, on their terms," Said Herft.

The Digi Music Freedom pass allows subscribers to enjoy unlimited streaming from the most popular services that they are already using and are familiar with. It brings the newest and most inspiring entertainment content along with the latest digital service innovations from global partners.
