Digi powers-up Digi-X to springboard its digital future
Praveen Rajan leads new Digi-X division as Chief Digital Officer

SHAH ALAM, 30 MAY 2016 - Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) announced the formation of a new division, Digi-X, which is responsible for constructing digitally adjacent businesses and competencies, firmly positioning the company in the rapidly-growing digital arena. The new division will be led by the company's long-time digital advocate, Praveen Rajan, in the capacity of Chief Digital Officer.

Speaking on the announcement, Digi's Chief Executive Officer Albern Murty said, "We have an ambition to transform into a digital company and become our customers' favorite partner in digital life by 2020. This requires us to explore new areas beyond our traditional telco realm, in addition to fueling innovation within our core business. Digi-X will dream up and bring to life projects and businesses independent of Digi - from adjacent services to new digital verticals that could someday become part of our core business. This is a major move in our digital playbook, and you will see us taking giant leaps forward in this area in months to come.

He continued, "With Praveen as Digi's Chief Digital Officer, I am confident with his experience combined with his technical know-how and strong understanding from his own startup experience gives him the edge of both worlds, enabling him to swiftly build and deliver on our business needs. In this fast-moving, ever-expanding digital arena, Praveen will indeed keep us ahead of the game".

Praveen brings with him over nine years of experience in Digi, having held multiple leadership positions primarily in marketing covering the areas of Postpaid, Devices, Value Added Services and Partnerships. In addition, he was also the Chief Technology Officer of LifeLogger, a startup he co-founded in 2003. Praveen graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree from The Nottingham Trent University.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to take on this new challenge to spearhead and shape opportunities that will leapfrog our future growth at a time where the industry is experiencing a digital shift," said Praveen. When asked what the 'X' stood for, he said, "X signifies some of the unknown, some of the impossible, and some of the improbable. It stands for everything that Digi can be and achieve beyond being a telco".

Digi-X is mandated to create standalone digital businesses, develop new business streams through acquisition and investments, deepen digital partnerships and footprint in the startup ecosystem, as well as build and monetise digital platforms for the core business.
