DiGi Simple Card wins 'Everyday Merchant of the Year' MasterCard Award
Malaysia's first telco-branded prepaid card wins at regional awards

Shah Alam, 9 March 2012: The DiGi Simple MasterCard, Malaysian's first telco-branded prepaid payment card was conferred the 'Everyday Merchant of the Year' award at the MasterCard Hall of Fame Awards 2011 last week. DiGi was one of only four Malaysian companies that received an award this year.

Hosted by global payment solutions powerhouse MasterCard Worldwide, the prestigious annual awards show celebrates the best card marketing programmes pioneered by banks and merchants in South East Asia.

The DiGi Simple MasterCard topped other leading merchants in the region to win the Everyday Merchant of the Year Award. The category honors the most innovative and strategic card marketing campaign in the past year, providing priceless everyday life experiences to cardholders.

"It is extremely satisfying to have a major financial services corporation like MasterCard acknowledge that a telco is capable of creating and offering a financial service that captures the imagination of our young customers," said Galvin Yeo, DiGi's Head of Financial Services.

He said that the company's flagship card has only been in the market for six months and is steadily building its unique value proposition as a telco-linked prepaid payment option. "This award establishes the card's distinctiveness in employing synergies between financial services and telco offerings to build a strong customer proposition. It is an extremely simple tool that allows customers an easy way of making cashless payments and simultaneously earn and enjoy telco-related rewards.

"We are serious about financial services being a key part of our product offering, complementary to our telco services. The potential for further convergence between financial and telco services is great and we will continue working closely with institutions like MasterCard to develop more innovative financial services offerings that reward our customers for using DiGi's mobile technology every day," Galvin concluded.

The card is offered in collaboration with Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad and MasterCard Worldwide. It is exclusively for DiGi Prepaid, Postpaid and Enterprise customers above 18-years-old with valid personal identification and a local mailing address. To sign-up, DiGi Prepaid customers need only reload RM15 or purchase a new SIM pack, while DiGi Postpaid customers can apply simply by making their bill payments. The card is available at DiGi Retail Centres and DiGi Centres nationwide, and at all Alliance Bank branches.
